I've been very volatile with golf lately. On Sunday I had one of the craziest rounds ever; a nightmare start and then played extremely well from hole 5 onwards (minus hole 9 and 18) to still record an okay final Stableford score (30). My putting really saved the day. I hit some nice lag putts and dropped a couple of bombs for par.
I was actually on track for my lowest ever back 9 score with all pars from 10-15, bogey on 16, par 17 (so +1 though 8) but then a disappointing pickup on 18.
Some notes:
- I need to try and hit more fairways, I've been quite streaky off the tee
- I should try and go down to the range at least once a week, focus on getting tee shots in the fairway and hitting solid irons
- When I'm getting a bit messy off the tee it's usually a right to left hook, I think if I weaken my grip a little bit this could help, I'm still getting into good spots when I hit good tee shots with my 4 hybrid even off the blue tees so I don't think club choice is necessarily the problem
- To help with the grip issue I'm getting this, I should do regular practice with it
- I will eventually purchase a new 5 wood for my bag, I'm also currently getting my pitching wedge fixed as it broke on a round a few weeks ago (I accidentally swung the club into a tree and it snapped) so I need to think about where my money is going
