Spud

Introducing to the world: Spud.

Some things to know about him:

  • He's 11 weeks old, born the exact same day as Boots, 19th of September, this had to be some sort of special sign that Spud was meant for us
  • We picked him up last Sunday
  • He was bred at Glentarella Border Collies
  • We're doing crate training which is going well so far
  • He's mostly just sleeping and being very lazy right now
  • He's a little bundle of joy

Dye#daringfireball.net

The sentiment within the ranks at Apple is that today’s news is almost too good to be true. People had given up hope that Dye would ever get squeezed out, and no one expected that he’d just up and leave on his own. (If you care about design, there’s nowhere to go but down after leaving Apple. What people overlooked is the obvious: Alan Dye doesn’t actually care about design.)

Putting Alan Dye in charge of user interface design was the one big mistake Jony Ive made as Apple’s Chief Design Officer.4 Dye had no background in user interface design — he came from a brand and print advertising background.

It’s rather extraordinary in today’s hyper-partisan world that there’s nearly universal agreement amongst actual practitioners of user-interface design that Alan Dye is a fraud who led the company deeply astray.

This is exciting news for design at Apple but damn Gruber did not mince words here.

Netflix Warner#youtube.com

This deal is nuts. I'm especially intrigued by how they deal with all the HBO content. That's a big important library. Amazon and Apple are likely pretty worried about their streaming services.

Aussie December Sports

What a weekend of Australian sport. The Australian Open golf was a fantastic event; just such a disappointing ending with Cam Smith 3 putting to cost him a chance in a playoff. Guess he still has all that LIV money.

The Aussies are looking very strong in the Ashes with a 2-0 lead now. A whitewash in very much coming in to play. England will be ruing the missing chance they had in Perth when they had Australia on the ropes.

Like Hey this is a good example of how far you can go with Rails. Will be interesting to see what the interactivity story is like.

The fact a CEO of a big company like Shopify still makes stuff like this is wild.

Prime Reviews#youtube.com

Reviews seem solid but it's definitely not a perfect game. It's likely something a lot of people will enjoy but there will be some annoyances throughout the play through.
